Katrina achieved every possible success: Zoya Akhtar

Posted in : Gossips

(added few months ago!)

Director Zoya Akhtar, who has again teamed up with Katrina Kaif for ‘Bombay Talkies’, feels the popular actress has come a long way and achieved every impossible things when she entered the film industry a decade ago.

Katrina achieved every possible success: Zoya Akhtar

Besides Hindi, the British-Indian actress and former model has also appeared in Telugu and Malayalam films. “Katrina Kaif is somebody whose dream to become a big movie star in India was an impossible dream considering where she came from and what her life was. “But that did not stop her. Dreams do come true... You just have to believe in yourself. She has achieved what was impossible for her to achieve,” Zoya told PTI.

Katrina made her acting debut in 2003 with Kaizad Gustad’s ‘Boom’. Thereafter, she appeared in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Sarkar’, Salman Khan-starrer ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’, among others. She played memorable roles in hit films like ‘Race’, ‘Partner’, ‘Singh Is Kinng’, ‘New York’, ‘Rajneeti’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and ‘Ek Tha Tiger’.

Zoya also cast Katrina in the lead in her 2011 slice-of-life film ‘Zindagi...’. She again showed faith in the and roped in for ‘Bombay Talkies’, a short film which celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema. The film release on May 3. It revolves around a boy who dances to the tune of ‘Sheila ki Jawani’ (the highly popular item song featuring Katrina in ‘Tees Maar Khan’) all day and wishes to be like the actress.  The kid’s craze for Katrina borders on obsession.

The story is said to be based on a real-life incident.  Zoya came across the boy a couple of years ago at a social get-together and wanted to portray it on celluloid ever since. “When we were kids we used to dress up and dance. Even boys used to dress up like girls and dance,” said the filmmaker, who made her debut as director with ‘Luck By Chance’ in 2009.

The film also stars ‘Chillar Party’ child actor Naman Jain. “I just loved this boy, he was fantastic. I saw him in ‘Chillar Party’ and he was superb,” Zoya said.  ‘Bombay Talkies’ is a collaborative project and it also features short movies made by Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar and Dibakar Banerjee.

The idea for this short film, produced by Ashi Dua, came to Zoya sometime back. “Reema Kagti (‘Talaash’ director) and I had a short story and that time it was called ‘Zoom Zoom Darling’. But, we couldn’t make it. I made Ashi Dua read my story and said I will like to make this. She agreed. It all happened in a day.  It was brilliant,” Zoya said. The project was further discussed during a dinner party at Kashyap’s residence.

(added few months ago!)

Deepika, Katrina in Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’If the latest buzz is to be believed that Sanjay Leela Bhasali’s dream project will finally take off after 14 years. The project titled, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and Bhansali has zeroed on Deeepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif to play the two lead heroines. Bhansali wanted to make the film way back in 1999 with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai but their fall-out has shelved the project.

The historical epic will be based on the life of Peshwa Bajirao and his ladylove Mastani. Eros International will produce the big budget movie. A source close Bhansali said,  "After Ram Leela releases in October 2013, Bhansali will start with the pre production of Bajirao Mastani. He will begin shooting in April 2014.

Added the source, "Eros and Bhansali have had a fabulous working relationship during Ram Leela. Their collaboration on Bajirao Mastani will strengthen their association."Sanjay Leela Bhasali has spoken to both Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone and they are keen to be a part of the project. However, who will play Bajirao is not yet known but Ranbir Kapoor is under consideration.

Deepika will play Mastani and Katrina Kaif will playBajirao's wife Kashibai
"Apparently, Bhansali has had a word with both Deepika and Katrina. The girls have shown tremendous interest," says the source. While this could be Katrina's first film with Bhansali, Deepika is looking forward to her second one with Bhansali. It would be interesting to see how the two ladies get along on the sets, considering what they have in common. "All you need now is Ranbir Kapoor coming on board as Bajirao, and you have a Silsila all over again," smiles our source, adding, "Bhansali is yet to finalise any actor for Bajirao's role. Keep watching."

IPL 2013: Katrina Kaif vs Ajit Pawar!

Posted in : Gossips

(added few months ago!)

I have yet to get HD [High-Definition] on my cable due to pure lethargy, which stems from the perception that it doesn't really matter much in terms of viewing experience. Many readers may disagree with this perception, but being a huge fan of Didi [Mamta Banerjee], I find their attitude 'petty' and have stood firmly by my irrational beliefs. Also, as I am not going to Delhi any time soon, I am not liable to be attacked by my detractors. But unlike Mamta Didi I am beginning to have second thoughts after watching the first few days of he 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL). I was blissfully ignorant of — rather didn't appreciate — the fact that as of now the HD telecast is completely free of ads.

IPL 2013: Katrina Kaif vs Ajit Pawar!

This is not going to be a rant about how commercial the IPL is and how I hate the fact that commercials are shown in between “natural breaks” (between overs) and “contrived breaks” (strategic) and how it breaks momentum of a match. It’s not about the ads but it’s about the composition of the ads that are shown during overs and strategic breaks. There are in all some 10-12 ads featuring Katrina Kaif, Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Imran Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and the Zoo Zoos that are continually recycled with a viciousness that would make Al Gore's eyes swell with proud tears. Some may point out that I have missed out on the Big B but to those I will say that I am like Narendra Modi who sees half a glass filled with water as full because the other half is filled with air. The Big B is the air. He is everywhere.

Not being an ad man, my views may be met with scorn by the more knowledgeable ones. I will still try. How does a cross dressing Aamir Khan make Godrej Eon a more desirable air conditioner? Am I supposed to believe that touching a wall painted with Berger paints is akin to feeling Katrina's smooth skin? If yes I don't like Katrina anymore. Ranbir, who did commercials for Pepsi during the Football World Cup (or was it at the Euro) poking fun at cricket fans is back to wooing — you guessed it right — cricket fans!

The Zoo Zoo ads are a fantastic cure for insomnia, but within 15 seconds Saif Ali Khan's wailing voice wakes me up from my slumber. Imagine everybody’s plight as watching the same people over and over and over again doing some really unimaginative and irritating commercials. I can.

So it's not about the fact that commercials are shown during IPL 6 , but the lament is more about which commercials are shown during IPL 6. Some may argue that Extraa Innings is even nastier than the commercials, but there I have a choice of turning it off. What I would like to see is more realistic ads that would also position the IPL as a socially responsible. Of course the models for the commercials would not feature any film stars or cricket stars. They will not be some good-looking models either but people we know.

I can suggest some ideas for the same. Subroto Sahara will be a perfect model for an Insurance Pension plan ad. The fact that at this ripe old age he has total assets worth only three crores will immediately form a bond with people worried about their post retirement comforts.

Ajit Pawar is an obvious choice for a Pepsi commercial advising villagers in Maharashtra to not fight for a bucket of water on the arrival of a water tanker. They can have a Pepsi. Please note that this idea has already been submitted to the patent office. Dam it — pun intended — they haven't responded yet. Jayalalitha can don Farah Khan's clothes (guess they will fit her perfectly) and make people dance to her, the IPL tune.

And yes there still will be a couple of Big B ads slipped in. He is air, remember?
I realise that maybe my idea won't appeal to the umpires powers that be at SetMax and hence going to call my cable guy and get that HD connection. Sometimes money can buy you peace of mind.

How important is Salman Khan in Katrina Kaif’s life?

Posted in : Gossips

(added few months ago!)

Salman Khan can change your life for the better if he takes you under his gracious wings. Don’t believe us? Look at the likes of Himesh Reshammiya, Sajid–Wajid and many more Bollywood aspirants and you will be convinced of bhai’s big role in making stars out of ambitious souls. The biggest beneficiary of Sallu’s close friendship, of course, is none other than Katrina Kaif. The Dhoom:3 star doesn’t shy away from accepting the massive role Salman has played in her life, in getting her to the place where she has reached today. There’s no denying the fact that Kat wouldn’t have been the diva that she is had she not put in the hard work she has to make it big in Bollywood. But Sallu’s instrumental role in the babe’s life will always eclipse Kaif’s graceful personality and her tremendous determination to excel.

How important is Salman Khan in Katrina Kaif’s life?

Katrina too gracefully accepts the fact and maintains that life wouldn’t have been the same without the Dabangg dude. “Salman had a huge role in my career. There’s no doubt about that. I value his opinion. As a person, Salman has had the biggest impact on my life. I became friends with him when I was young. And his persona is very strong. If I were to look back and see his impact on my life, it’s been tremendous. So why are we talking about something as small and segmented as a career. Life is far bigger than a career. Of course, what would my entire life journey have been had I not met that family, had I not met Akshay (Kumar)? I highly recommend that if Salman ever gives you an advice please think about it. Because he comes from a correct thinking process. I’m not saying he’s perfect but his thinking process is correct. Obviously, having someone who’s so knowledgeable about the film industry was extremely valuable,” said Katrina in a recent interview. We agree with Kat. But now we want to know Vivek Oberoi’s take on how big a role Sallu has played (in virtually killing his once flourishing career) in his life. Will Vivek answer? Ideally, he shouldn’t!
